The “Capi” Correa Stadium: The Historic Home of SMA Rugby Club – Angels
The SMA Rugby Club – Angels proudly call the “Capi” Correa Stadium their original home, a venue steeped in history and sporting legacy. With a rich history spanning 30 years, the stadium’s construction commenced between 1983 and 1985, under the tenure of President Luis Ferro de la Sota. Initially known as the “Municipal Stadium,” it was a symbol of the city’s dedication to fostering sports and community spirit.
Sixteen years ago, the stadium was renamed in honor of a son of San Miguel de Allende, the beloved “Capi” Correa. Recognized as one of the most influential figures in promoting sports in the region, Correa’s legacy continues to inspire athletes and sports enthusiasts alike. The “Capi” Correa Stadium has been a focal point for numerous sporting events, including the memorable first National 7s rugby tournament hosted by SMA Rugby Club. The Club Achievements
Since our establishment in 2012, San Miguel Rugby Club has evolved into a competitive and social entity within the Federación Mexicana de Rugby Union (FMRU). Over the years, we have achieved numerous milestones, including participation in various levels of FMRU competitions and have had five girls and three young men play for the under 19 Guanajuato state rugby team.
It fills us with pride to witness our girls playing on the state team that achieved a commendable third place in the National Olympics held in Guadalajara. Additionally, four of our girls have had the honor of trying out for the Mexican National team, with two of them successfully selected for their 7s and 15s teams.
